AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED)
Course Aim
To provide participants with the knowledge and skills to
effectively use an automated external defibrillator (AED) on a
casualty in cardiac arrest.
CourseObjective
This training is suitable for individuals, companies and
organizations, and will provide participants with the knowledge and
skills to make them confident and competent to use an AED.
Prerequisites
Minimum age of 16 years is recommended.
Learning Outcomes
• Explain the human
cardiovascular system, with emphasis on the electrophysiology of
the heart.
• Define the three
cardiac arrhythmias which precipitate cardiac arrest.
• Explain the effects
of direct current counter shocks delivered by an AED.
• Demonstrate the
preparation of a casualty for the application of an AED.
• Demonstrate the
assembly, application and use of the AED on a casualty in cardiac
arrest.
• Demonstrate the
management of a casualty after using the AED.
